2018 Mustang gets suspension upgrades and engine revision

Paris News.Net - Tuesday 12th September, 2017

FRANKFURT, Germany - On Monday, Ford unveiled the new Ford Mustang for Europe - which it has dubbed to be faster, sleeker and more technologically advanced.

Ford said that it was aiming to deliver sleek new styling, sophisticated engine and suspension upgrades that have been been tuned to suit European tastes.

The automaker said that the new version of the vehicle comes with advanced driver assistance technologies and more customisation options, for the iconic sports car.

The new Mustang is also expected to come with the fastest accelerating ever, with an enhanced 5.0-litre V8 engine that offers 443 bhp, combined with Ford’s new 10-speed automatic transmission.

Steven Armstrong, group vice president and president, Europe Middle East and Africa, Ford Motor Company explained, “Europe’s passion for Mustang has proven even greater than we imagined – almost 30,000 Mustangs are already bringing one of the most iconic sights in motoring to the continent’s streets.”

Since its very first model was launched in 1964, Mustang has tried  to deliver two things - an exhilarating performance and a fun-to-drive experience.

The company now claimed that its Mustang will deliver the most rewarding driving experience yet as it would come with new powertrain, chassis and technology enhancements.

Further, it noted that its 5.0-litre V8 engine has been further developed to deliver more power and a higher rev-limit than ever before.

With peak power of over 440 bhp, the vehicle is supported by the introduction of Ford’s new dual-fuel, high-pressure direct injection and low-pressure port fuel injection system, which also increases low-end torque.

In addition, the new Mustang also offers a 2.3-litre EcoBoost delivering 286 bhp, and offers a more responsive and engaging driving experience as it comes with a transient overboost function for the turbocharger that is triggered under heavy acceleration to provide an extra burst of boost following each up-shift.

It comes with Ford’s new 10-speed transmission too, which offers greater fuel efficiency, and improved acceleration.

The automaker said that the gearbox’s electronic control system enables settings that optimise performance for Drive Modes, and real-time adaptive shift-scheduling that allows the transmission to adapt to changing conditions.

Ford engineers are said to have further optimised Mustang’s driving dynamics, with recalibrated shock absorbers that will improve stability through corners, and rear suspension that has been stiffened with a cross-axis joint.

It has also introduced thicker anti-roll bars to better control body-roll for sharper handling.

With a sleeker exterior, the new Ford Mustang pulls off a more athletic appearance, with a lower bonnet profile, a revised lower grille design, a dramatic rear-end with a remodelled bumper and diffuser element.

Mustang is also reportedly offering a new optional boot spoiler for an even sportier profile.

Further, along with its Normal, Sport, Track and Snow/Wet Modes, Drag Strip Mode is introduced to optimise performance for maximum acceleration and a My Mode, that enables drivers to select their own preferred settings.

Customers in Europe are being offered a Mustang with Adaptive Cruise Control, Distance Alert technologies and Lane Departure Warning for the first time.

The company aims to deliver the new Ford Mustang in 2018.
